CONTEXT

As I delved deeper into the various sections of the Upscale AI application, I recognized a significant deficiency in consistency, familiarity, and the disciplined approach typically upheld as best practice in web and product design. Without a uniform method for constructing pages or a library of reusable elements, developers were each crafting their own makeshift solutions, leading to a mishmash of similar yet slightly varied outputs. This lack of coherence resulted in a disjointed user experience.

Due to privacy considerations, I'm limited in the details I can share about my work at Upscale. However, I can provide a brief overview.

UNDERSTAND THE DESIGN PROBLEM

How can we enhance UI accessibility to prevent declining retention rates?

SOLUTION

Recognizing the need for a structured approach, I spearheaded the development of a comprehensive design system. I integrated Google’s Material Symbols for iconography and crafted a suite of components including buttons, inputs, and labels. I focused on maintaining an interactive yet neutral color palette throughout the app to ensure maximum contrast and enhance accessibility. This initiative not only streamlined our development process but also significantly improved the consistency and quality of our user interface.

DESIGNING NEW FEATURES

At Upscale, my role has centered around crafting intuitive dashboards and efficient workflow systems, where I meticulously defined interactions and micro-interactions.

The implementation of a robust design system facilitated the reuse of many components, enabling us to accelerate feature development and deployment significantly.

Each challenge I tackled was subjected to a thorough design-agile process, beginning with basic sketches that evolved through stages of wire framing. This initial phase was crucial for establishing a general flow and feel, undergoing multiple rounds of testing and approval to ensure the design's modularity and accessibility of information. Following this, a high-fidelity phase allowed for refining aesthetics, such as color schemes and overall design details.

With stakeholder endorsement secured, I progressed to prototyping, paving the way for seamless integration of new features into the product, demonstrating a blend of strategic foresight and technical proficiency.

ADDITIONAL WORK

Beyond developing interactive onboarding frameworks, workflows, and intuitive dashboards, I have taken on several additional responsibilities:

I collaborated extensively with the content writer to produce over 500 diverse social media posts, branding visuals, documents, flyers, and banners. Our joint efforts were particularly focused on designing compelling infographics for blogs and creating eye-catching posters and visual graphics for LinkedIn advertising campaigns, among other projects. This collaboration not only enriched the content but also enhanced its visual appeal, significantly boosting our brand's visibility and engagement across various platforms.

Reflecting on my time at Upscale, I've come to appreciate my role's multifaceted nature and its diverse responsibilities. As a designer, I was not only tasked with crafting intuitive user interfaces but also took on the challenge of overhauling our company website, creating extensive marketing materials, and diving into the technicalities of feature optimization. My days were often a blend of creativity and strategy, requiring a seamless transition between designing, collaborating, and strategizing. This dynamic environment demanded versatility in skills and an enduring commitment to our vision and goals.

Working closely with team members from different departments enhanced my ability to wear multiple hats effectively. Whether it was iterating designs based on feedback from the content team, discussing user engagement metrics with the CEO, or brainstorming with the product manager on new features, each interaction enriched my understanding and approach to my work.
